Treatment of menopause

Hormone replacement therapy is the best solution to mitigate undesirable side effects of menopause as well as prevent or reduce the risk of various age-related diseases that can occur due to a change in hormone levels.

Hormone replacement therapy

Dr. Aleks Letnikovs prefers to treat his patients only with bioidentical hormones. The term “bioidentical” means the hormones in the product are chemically identical to those in the human body. Common hormones that are matched are oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone.

If the patient is against any hormonal therapy, we always try to find an alternative solution (non-hormonal drugs or remedies) suitable for patient.

The doses, routes of administration, duration and regimens of hormone replacement therapy are important for the safety of the patient and successful mitigation of risks and consequences of menopause.

Background information

According to statistics, women aged 45 to 52 (sometimes earlier) start to notice the first symptoms of menopausal transition. The symptoms may vary depending on lifestyle, genetics and other health conditions.

The most common symptoms are:

Hormonal changes

A change in hormone levels can provoke other undesirable side effects and increase the risk of age-related diseases such as cardiovascular pathologies, arthrosis, autoimmune diseases, dementia, etc.

If hormones are used without assessing the risks of this therapy for each patient, various side effects may occur such as cholelithiasis, thrombosis, cancer, etc. However, delayed hormone replacement therapy can lead to dementia (dementia is a group of conditions characterised by impairment of at least two brain functions, such as memory and sanity).

“A lot of my patients, both women and men, think that menopause or andropause is the end. I would like to assure you that this is the perfect moment to reinvent yourself. This is a great time to reach all of your unfulfilled goals with a new level of energy that comes from a personalized approach to bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. When giving lectures to doctors about hormone replacement therapy or writing prescriptions for my patients, I always insist on the necessity to evaluate each patient’s risks and family history, assessing how hormones are metabolized, what is the sensitivity of receptors, etc., and only then calculating the dose of hormones and assigning a safe route of administration. This is the only approach that allows us to avoid severe undesirable side effects as much as possible.”
